The teller looks at the check, looks at Dwiv's ID, looks at him, looks back at his ID, and then looks up and says, "Is there anything else I can do for you today, your highness?"
Somewhat startled, Dwiv says, "How did you know what that says?" The teller replies, "I'm an Ancient Languages major at Georgia State."
Yes, my husband managed to get the only teller in Atlanta that reads Sumerian.

*can't stop laughing*

For a second I was scared that the teller was going to also be a part of
Also, the meta-quoting of this explains why, like, 20 people have joined

Coolest thing ever. I love my some dead languages.
(Clearly Sumerian is on the verge of a making a comeback.)

When I read this in
I'm reminded of the time it started to rain as I walked to my bank in California. The teller looked at me and said, "You're wet," to which I replied in my best Susan Sarandon-ish voice, "Yes. It's raining." His jaw dropped and he said, "You, too?!?"
Anyway, I'd like to borrow the Spike "Bite Me!" icon for future use (unless you object, of course).

I was surfing along and somehow ended up here, so I thought I'd repay you in kind for the grin you bestowed upon me with your hubby's royal status...
A German friend of mein, Florian Heines, was flying from Australia to Europe a couple of years back, and - being born under a lucky star - got upgraded not once, but twice, to first class. This meant that my friend got a personal steward (as you do), and the first thing this hapless fellow does is ask Florian how he may address him, whereupon my friend unthinkingly answers: Heines (which, of course, sounds exactly like "Highness").
He got the best service ever on that flight, he claims... ;-)
Cheers,
Chris

That's at least funnier and less embarressing than when, upon seeing some lovely asian lass bent over looking an item at the toy store where I was working at the time, I half-whispered, "Ah, kune dingy naka naka chosom nida."
(- fairly gutterslang korean that translates loosely as "Her ass swings sweetly from side to side." -)
I turn around when I hear, "Yes, she is lovely." and find myself face to face with a korean septagenerian with a sense of humour.
It wasn't until afterwards that I found out that this area has a large enough korean population that I need to watch what slang I use. :-)

Ok, I think you win for the funniest reply so far. :)
And, where the hell are you people coming from? This post is almost a year old, but I've gotten four comments on it in the last day or so. Not that I mind, but it's just sorta odd.
